MNS-4000 400-Channel Tracking Receiver
The L.L. Electronics MNS-4000 is our wide-range handheld tracking receiver for users who want extensive frequency coverage without adding unnecessary complexity. With 400 channels covering a full 4 MHz frequency range, the MNS-4000 gives you the flexibility to track a large number of transmitter frequencies while retaining the straightforward controls and dependable operation our receivers are known for.
Each of the 400 channels covers a 10 kHz range, with the Tune control allowing you to precisely zero in on the transmitter within that channel. The standard MNS-4000 covers channels 600 through 999, providing coverage from approximately 216.000 through 219.999 MHz.
Built for Tracking, Not Complexity
The MNS-4000 is intentionally straightforward. Select the appropriate channel, fine-tune the signal, and use the Gain control to manage both signal strength and audio level.
Rather than requiring separate attenuation controls or complicated menus, the Gain control allows you to progressively reduce sensitivity as you close in on the transmitter. This makes it easy to transition from searching at long range to accurately determining direction at close range.
400 Channels. 4 MHz of Coverage.
The MNS-4000 provides:
400 selectable channels
10 kHz per channel
4,000 kHz / 4 MHz total coverage
Channels 600–999
Fine tuning within each channel
Coverage approximately 216.000–219.999 MHz
For example, a transmitter operating at 216.175 MHz is located on Channel 617, with the Tune control set near 5. Fine tuning allows for the small amount of frequency variation that can occur between individual transmitters or with changing environmental conditions.
Dual-Function Signal Meter
The analog meter is much more than a simple signal indicator.
At closer range, meter movement provides an extremely useful visual indication of signal strength and direction. At longer distances, the receiver's audio can often provide the clearest indication of small changes in signal as the antenna is swept from side to side.
The MNS-4000 includes our Dual Function Meter as standard equipment:
Meter Light
Turns on the green meter backlight for easier visibility in low-light conditions.
Battery Test
Momentarily displays receiver battery condition directly on the meter.
2L Folding Directional Antenna
The current MNS-4000 package is paired with our 2L Folding Directional Antenna.
This compact two-element design was developed specifically around our receivers. It provides the directional response needed for tracking while eliminating the bulk of older multi-element antenna designs. The antenna folds alongside the receiver for transport and opens quickly when needed.
It is lightweight, comfortable to use in one hand, and mounts directly with the receiver to create one integrated tracking unit.
I would make this section visually prominent because your new photography finally lets us communicate one of the strongest attributes of this receiver: how compact it becomes when folded versus how large and directional the antenna becomes when opened.
Tracking by Meter and Audio
The receiver gives you two complementary ways to determine direction.
At closer range: reduce the Gain and watch the meter. Meter movement makes small changes in signal strength easier to distinguish when the transmitter is nearby.
At longer range: increase the Gain and listen to the signal while slowly sweeping the antenna. A relatively small change in antenna direction can produce a noticeable drop in audio, helping identify the strongest direction.
The orientation of the transmitter antenna also matters. If a weak signal is difficult to locate, try holding the receiver antenna both vertically and horizontally. Matching the polarization of the transmitter antenna can significantly improve reception, particularly at greater distances.
Straightforward Controls
Channel Selector
Selects one of 400 receiver channels.
Tune
Fine-tunes the receiver within the selected 10 kHz channel.
Gain
Controls receiver sensitivity, attenuation, and audio level as you approach or move away from the signal.
Signal Meter
Provides visual signal-strength indication for directional tracking.
Meter Light / Battery Test
Provides a green meter backlight and momentary battery-condition check.
Headphone Jack
Standard headphone connection for private listening or difficult field conditions.

Choose Your Frequency Range
Every MNS-4000 is configured for the frequency range you need.
The receiver provides 400 channels over a 4 MHz span, and we can build it for a number of commonly used radio-tracking bands.
Most customers choose 216–220 MHz, but other ranges are available.
For less common frequencies, select Custom / Other Frequency Range and tell us the transmitter frequencies you need to track. We can confirm compatibility before building your receiver.
*** Receiver Lead Time: Due to strong demand, we are currently experiencing extended lead times on receiver orders. We build and test each receiver before shipment and appreciate your patience. ***
One of our more popular units for the past 30 years, the MN-10 is familiar, easy to use, and reliable. Covering 100KHz within a given frequency, users have the capability of tracking up to 10 transmitters on one unit. Each channel consists of 10KHz of coverage to allow for a fine tune for clear and precise tracking abilities.
Optional: Add the Dual Function Meter (DFM) to get a lighted meter with a battery tester.
Compact directional performance without the bulk of a traditional Yagi.
The L.L. Electronics 2L is a lightweight, collapsible Yagi antenna designed specifically for radio telemetry tracking. Its folding elements allow the antenna to collapse into a compact package for transport, then deploy quickly when it is time to track.
The 2L was designed around our MN and MNS receivers, providing excellent directional performance while remaining exceptionally light and comfortable in the hand. When paired with our receivers, its performance is comparable to — and in many situations can exceed — the larger three-element antenna designs traditionally used for telemetry tracking.
Because the antenna is optimized as part of the complete L.L. Electronics receiver system, you get strong directionality without carrying a large, cumbersome antenna in the field. The 2L also performs very well with other compatible telemetry receivers.
Why the 2L?
Compact folding Yagi design
Lightweight and comfortable for extended tracking
Strong directional response for locating transmitters
Designed specifically around L.L. Electronics receivers
Performance comparable to larger traditional three-element designs
Quickly folds for easier transport and storage
Compatible with current and earlier MN and MNS receivers
Manufactured by L.L. Electronics
